CAN I BAPTIZE MY GRANDCHILDREN?

QUESTION? / COMMENT!

I was speaking to a priest about my grandchildren ages 13 and 11. My son and his ex wife were not married in the Church and they never had their kids baptized, despite my years of encouragement. My grandchildren wanted to be baptized but the parents always dragged their feet. My son is attending a nondenominational church and they are planning on getting them baptized there on May 31st. I found out that all they do is ask if they believe in Jesus and dunk them in water. I realize this is invalid. I spoke to a priest from another diocese and he said that I should baptize them myself with my son’s permission and then notify the priest and he would register the baptism. So I asked my pastor and he said absolutely not unless it was an emergency situation. I’ve always believed the statement of my pastor. But with my grandkids going through an invalid baptism and believing they will be baptized, would this be an emergency situation? I have spoken to my son about the invalidity of the form, however that doesn’t seem to sway him. Even when I appeal to baptizing like in the Bible Matt 28:19 and John 3:5. Any suggestion on whether I should baptize them or just keep praying to St. Monica and St. Augustine?

No, you cannot baptize your grandchild, it is not a life and death emergency and you can't override the authority of the Father and Mother, they have primary authority over their children they brought to this world and they will be accountable on judgment day for having taught or not having taught their children about the Catholic Faith which is the one True Church started by Jesus Christ for the salvation of all mankind.
