The virgin birth of the Church
The virgin birth of Christ became the virgin birth of the Church. Here we pass from the Incarnation to the crucifixion. Remember that our Blessed Lord changed his attitude toward his mother at the marriage feast of Cana. She was then known as the Mother of Jesus. But at the marriage feast of Cana He called her “woman.” Going back to Genesis, this is the woman whose seed would crush the head of the serpent. Then a year and a half later, when she was worried about Him, and sent messages to Him, imagine Him saying, “Who is my mother?” He took all relationships out of the order of blood. For Christ they no longer exist. “He who does the will of my Father is my mother, my brother, my sister.”
