The decline of belief in angels

Angels, the decline of belief in angels does not prove that the world have gotten wiser, but rather that is has become materialistic. The principle reason why angels have lost their following is because angels are created substances of pure intelligence, but devoid of all bodily qualities and characteristics. The modern mind lives in a closed universe in the sense that man is believed to be just an animal devoid of an immortal soul, and with no other purpose in life than to attain security and enjoy pleasure (The Quotable Sheen - p.7).
