What Do We Want?
We want life; we want truth; we want love: these are our basic needs. Not life for five more minutes, not the truths of geography to the exclusion of history, and not a love of society; we want a life without end, total truth, perfect love. And, we might ask, from where do the rays of sunshine in a chapel come? Not from under the pews; for the source, we must go to pure light. So for the source of life and truth and love, we have to go to the Father who is life itself, to the Son who is the Word and truth, and to the Holy Spirit who is Love. God, therefore, is life and truth and love--everything that we want on earth in its fullness--each dwelling in the other and fully one in being.
