NOT BY FLESH AND BLOOD
Concerning his confession of divinity, our Lord said to Peter, “Flesh and blood have not revealed this to thee.” In other words, you do not know that I am Christ, the Son of God, by natural instincts or by reason, just as you who are reading this do not know just by reason alone that Christ is the Son of God. Your reason gives you motives of credibility, but there had to be an illumination from above. Here there’s a very special illumination of Peter, because he recognizes now that Christ is not only the Messiah; he is also the Son of the eternal Father.
