Ecclesia Militante

QUESTION?

When was Church Militant first used?

ANSWER!

This is a traditional title of the Church here on earth. The name is associated with Pope Clement V in a he wrote to France’s King Philip IV in 1311. The description of lay Catholics as soldiers of Christ has fallen out of favor in this age of “compassion” and submission to the secular world and wiles of the devil. And yet St. Paul assures us that we are in a fight: “For our struggle is not with flesh and blood but with principalities, with the powers, with the world rulers of this present darkness, with the evil spirits in the heavens” (Ephesians 6:12). We are fighting to save our country, all of western civilization and even Holy Mother Church. So “onward Christian soldiers!” Let us go march off to war!
