QUESTION?

Hi I was wondering if you can talk about laying of hands. Can Catholics lay hands if they are praying over or with someone? What about holding their hand? I’ve been to
Charismatic prayer groups that put their hands on people and praying over them.

ANSWER!

The laying on the hands has always been a Priestly posture of prayer in both Testaments. The Charismatic renewal has been HIGHLY influenced by protestant pentecostalism. 

Simply rule based on the Tradition of the Church for 2000 years. Catholic Priest can lay hands in prayer over anybody, they have universal authority.  Lay people can lay hands in prayer over their spouse and children (thats it). 

Charismatic prayer groups operate out of ignorance because they have been poorly formed by their teachers. It is the blind leading the blind. Having said, that, the charismatic renewal does have some positive things that it offers.
