Who is my mother?
Our Lord did his first miracle at the request of his Mother. A short time later, the Mother, fearful of the exhaustion of preaching during the day and praying on the mountaintop at night, sent a message to him. When the messenger announced, “Your mother is here,” he turned to the crowd and said, “Who is my mother? Who is she?” What would our mothers say if we said that? “Who is my mother?” He is reminding her that in the kingdom of heaven there are no more ties of flesh and blood. The only bond that exists in the kingdom of heaven is the spiritual bond of obedience to the Father’s will. So that the seeming rebuke turns into the greatest of compliments. “He that does the will of my Father in heaven is my mother.” And who ever obeyed the will of the Father in heaven as closely as Mary?
