WHICH PRAYER FORMULATION ONE OR BOTH?

QUESTION? / COMMENT!

We were so inspired by your presentation in Minnesota last fall and have eagerly consumed your books. I have a question about a father’s blessing. At the presentation you said that a father should bless his unmarried children and wife by saying, “I bless you in the name of…” and that mothers should say, “May God bless you in the name of…”. Is this correct? Are both formulations ok for fathers? Does baptism status matter? Thank you so much for your help and ministry.

ANSWER! / COMMENT!

The Father can say both: "I bless you...or May God Bless you". Since he is the St Joseph (head of house) he can say either one. The Mother should say: "May God bless you..." The parents offering the blessing should be baptized Catholics.
