Contemplative and Silence

1.     Psalm 46:10 "Be still, and know that I am God. I am exalted among the nations, I am exalted in the earth!"

2.     Psalm 37:7 “Be still before the LORD, and wait patiently for him;
fret not yourself over him who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices!”

3.     Psalm 62:1,5 “For God alone my soul waits in silence; from him comes my salvation…5] For God alone my soul waits in silence, for my hope is from him.”

4.     Wisdom 18:14-15 “While gentle silence enveloped all things, and night in its swift course was now half gone, your all-powerful word leaped from heaven, from the royal throne” This verse would be understood by the Christian liturgical tradition as a prefiguration of the silent incarnation of the Word in the crib in Bethlehem. Now silence is a part of humility (Cardinal Robert Sarah http://cvote.it/2p35Gu2).

5.     Job 29:21 "Men listened to me, and waited, and kept silence for my counsel.”

6.     Lamentations 3:26 “It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD.”

7.     Habakkuk 2: 20 “But the LORD is in his holy temple; let all the earth keep silence before him.”

8.     Zechariah 2:13 “Be silent, all flesh, before the LORD; for he has roused himself from his holy dwelling.”

9.     Zephaniah 1: 7 “Be silent before the Lord GOD! For the day of the LORD is at hand.”

10.  1 Kings 19: 9-13 “And there he came to a cave, and lodged there; and behold, the word of the LORD came to him, and he said to him, "What are you doing here, Eli'jah?" [10] He said, "I have been very jealous for the LORD, the God of hosts; for the people of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thy altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away." [11] And he said, "Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD." And behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and broke in pieces the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake; [12] and after the earthquake a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice. [13] And when Eli'jah heard it, he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. And behold, there came a voice to him, and said, "What are you doing here, Eli'jah?"
