WHEN A BAPTIZED CATHOLIC MARRIES OUTSIDE THE CHURCH

QUESTION? / COMMENT!

My son and I were very impressed with your talk at the Wichita Catholic Conference on August 1-3. We bought most of your books and I have watched your videos on YouTube and shared them with all of my friends.

My husband and I would love any advice you can give us on on dealing with faith and our 5 children. Unfortunately,  all five children abandoned their Catholic faith after leaving home to attend college. One son, is a revert and picked up his Catholic faith again after 17 years. Our other son, plans to marry his girlfriend who he has lived with for 10 years.  His brother will be officiating the wedding in January.  The brother is not a minister or a practicing Catholic. Jesse as a layman, who speaks to groups of people with great zeal and boldness, my husband and I would appreciate your advice. We do not want to lose touch with our children but we know that as their parents we need to speak truth to them and the thought of not spending eternity with them in heaven is a great source of  trepidation for us.

How do you think we should handle this situation? A Capuchin monk at the conference, advised me to go to the wedding but not to sign anything and to let them know we do not approve of the wedding situation (out of the church and without a priest/minister.) Please tell us how you think we should deal with this situation. We were the ones who pushed them to finally get married and offered to give them money for their expenses. When they saw how expensive everything was, they decided to get married. Any advice that you might share with us?
