We need to resolve to change
February 24, 2023
When we are young, we have physical and emotional energy, but we are very much opposed to the expenditure of spiritual energy. In middle age we drift; the old become flxed and settled and refuse to change. And in this day when there is so much affirmation of self, we have almost turned around the words of John the Baptist saying: I must increase, He must decrease. I must draw attention to myself, and He must suffer the eclipse and decline. T. S. Eliot said that when everyone is running toward a precipice, he who walks in the opposite direction seems to have lost his mind. So when we fall into a pattern of ordinariness, we are loath to change.
