Was "El Mencho" a Child of God or a Child of Satan?

February 26, 2026

In light of the death of "El Mencho" the question has now come up: Are narcos Catholic? And you know who loves to throw this one around? The haters of the Church, the anti-Catholic crowd—they use it as a weapon to attack the faithful. They spot a Bible verse, a psalm taped up in El Mencho's hideout, and boom—the internet explodes: "See? These guys believe in the Virgin, in St Jude Thaddeus, they got religious symbols everywhere—so they're practicing Catholics! They're even representatives of the Church!"

Listen up, brothers and sisters in Christ—no, they are not Catholic. Not even close. The cartels are "sons of satan, their father is the devil."

Finding Psalm 91 scribbled somewhere in El Mencho's doesn't prove a thing. It just confirms what we already know: these narcos think they're untouchable, invincible. That psalm—"A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you"—it's a beautiful prayer of trust in God's divine protection in the midst of danger. But these guys twist it into some kind of magical shield, like a good-luck charm for their criminal empire. That's not faith; that's superstition. That's playing with fire.

Just because someone owns a Bible, quotes a psalm, wears a crucifix, or hangs a rosary doesn't make them a practicing Catholic living in accord with the faith. Look at Alessandra Rojo de la Vega—she parades around with a rosary around her neck, yet pushes abortion. Or Whoopi Goldberg, showing up with ashes on her forehead for Ash Wednesday, but championing the whole Democrat package: abortion on demand, euthanasia, same-sex "marriage." Symbols without obedience are empty. They're decorations, not discipleship.

The Virgin of Guadalupe? She's not an amulet or a talisman for protection while you run drugs and spill blood. Walk near the Basilica in Mexico city and you'll see Aztec dances mixed in like they're somehow compatible with the Catholic Faith. Devout Catholics in Mexico claim Our Lady of Guadalupe as 'Mexico's mother', some low information Mexican people blend Our Lady of Guadalupe with the aztec deity 'Tonantzin', turning her into a pagan goddess redux. The Cartels and gangs forget the whole point of Catholicism,:we go to Jesus through Mary. We love and honor the Blessed Virgin as the Mother of God, not as a lucky charm.

Using Catholic symbols as talismans while deliberately involved in murder, extortion, violence, and drug trafficking? That's superstition, plain and simple—and the Church condemns it outright. The cult of Santa Muerte has zero place in Catholic doctrine. She's not a recognized devotion, not a canonized saint, not part of Tradition. Church authorities in Mexico have called it out as foreign to the Faith… though sometimes they're too soft and won't just say it straight: it's demonic.

Calling yourself Catholic or flashing religious bling bling doesn't put you in communion with the Church. True Catholic faith demands doctrinal adherence and moral coherence. Systematic, grave criminal activity is objectively opposed to Christian morality.

Here's the key distinction, brothers and sisters: when criminals misuse Catholic symbols, it doesn't make organized crime "Catholic"—it makes it a grotesque instrumentalization of the sacred. They profane what is holy to justify evil. That's a violation of the 1st commandment, superstition, divination, magic and sacrilege.

In a Mexico torn apart by this cartel violence, we need clarity more than ever. The Catholic Faith can't be reduced to symbolic window dressing or a psychological shield against consequences—legal, moral, or eternal.

So what do we do? We pray—for Mexico, for conversion, for an end to this bloodshed. We call that nation back to its Catholic roots. The Mexican people were born Catholic, forged in the Faith. It's time to return to God like the Cristeros did—fearless, faithful, willing to stand for Christ even unto martyrdom. May their blood not have been shed in vain.

And one last thing: just like New Yorkers born and raised there, backed Cuomo—not because they're full-on communists, but because they're progressive in their politics—the same confusion happens here in Mexico. Don't let symbols fool you. Look at the fruits of the Mexican cartels. Look at their wretched, satanic lifestyles. Catholics, let's fight the real battle against the powers of darkness and re-evangelize every baptized Catholic so that they return "to their first love" (cf Rev 2:4-5). The Bible says in Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” The formation of the mind and soul of a child is at the heart of the spiritual battle. It appears as if Mencho’s parents did a horrible job rearing him in the love of God and the practice of the Catholic faith. Mencho the monster’s lifestyle was simply the bitter fruits of nihilism, secular humanism and moral relativism which are satanic philosophies.
