Spend and you will get

November 15, 2017

In the divine order, we get only when we spend. “Give and it will be given to you.”  Date et dabitur. And when there is this foolishness, then there is a tremendous transformation of heart and soul. One of the great characters of Russian literature, an evil man, Raskolnikov, killed an old woman, not for pleasure, not for money, just simply because there was no distinction between virtue and vice. He admitted his crime to a prostitute named Sonya. One day, he said to Sonya in a fit of anger,  “One of three things is going to happen to you. You'll either jump off a bridge; you will go mad; or you will cut your throat.” And Sonya picked up the eleventh chapter of John and began reading the resurrection of Lazarus. In other words, there's always an open door, the open door of love.
