I just learned that a grand uncle (grandfather's brother) of mine was a freemason. How does that affect our generational line as he is not a direct line descendant.

It doesn't, he is not a direct descendant. The best protection against curses, hexes or diabolical attacks is by living in a state of sanctifying grace.
