QUESTION? / COMMENT!

We are reaching out for your guidance regarding a difficult situation with our 24-year-old son, he's the youngest of our 3 children and still living in the home. He has been in his first serious relationship since the beginning of the year, and it has significantly changed our dynamic with him. We were always very close, but since this relationship began, he has become distant, spending nearly all his time with his girlfriend.

Early on, they spoke about moving in together, which we and his siblings strongly discouraged. Thankfully, they decided against it, but soon after, they announced plans to marry in a year. A few weeks later, he shared that they had experienced a miscarriage shortly after beginning their relationship.

Naturally, tensions have developed between his girlfriend and our family. While we have been praying, fasting, for both and have forgiven her, she continues to hold grudges against his siblings and avoids family gatherings with them. Recently, our son told us they want to move the wedding up to this November. This concerns us deeply, especially since these unresolved issues persist. We’ve encouraged him to give the relationship more time and to work through these challenges first. He acknowledges the problem and has tried to talk to her about reconciliation, but says she is having a hard time letting go of past hurts.

At this point, we’re unsure how to proceed. We do not feel comfortable supporting a marriage under these circumstances and are even wondering whether we should attend the wedding if things don’t change. Would it be appropriate to speak with the priest preparing them for marriage? We truly want what’s best for our son, but we feel heartbroken and concerned about his future.
