RIGHT VERSUS LEFT!
QUESTION? / COMMENT!
Terry, I appreciate yours & Jesse’s message and I would like to mention some key observations about why people are not coming to Church, leaving the Church, difficulty in men coming to the priesthood. There are other key issues, but I will comment on those mentioned.
First, Our Savior is neither conservative nor liberal. His message is the truth, but it has become distorted and political. Coming from my own experience where I left the Church for about 35 years, I just became disenchanted in clerics and their deafness on problems and examples of recalcitrance within the Church. The Church is God’s presence on earth and over the years, leadership of the Church has dropped the ball and also stuck in there own righteous power.
Some of those problems are self evident. Myself and plenty of others expected the Church to be above reproach. Not the case! Why do problems get coveted up, why isn’t there openness to sin, open to discussing change and ideas. Let’s open the windows and get fresh air into the room. Jesus truths are the truths we need to live by. Jesus is not political.
Why would people want to join a Church which extols holiness, “do as I say, not as I do” approach. and doesn’t follow its own words. We all need to come to the cross and ask forgiveness Condemnation has no place according to Jesus. Abortion, sexual mores. homelessness, societal problems, etc. are symptoms of deeper problems. The core is not really understanding Christ’s message and then not putting it into practice. Authenticity is where it is at, definitely not where religion has evolved to.
Flight from Church, fewer candidates for the priesthood are caused by lack transparency and true holiness at all levels. Things will only improve when we listened to Jesus, to each other and stop trying to be “right” and live out the message. Our actions will be the message we can bring to the world, then things will change.
ANSWER! /COMMENT!
Thanks for tuning in to the show. The terms right and left are not political terms, they are Biblical terms.
Remember what Jesus said: 'Goats on the left, sheep on the right' and Matthew 25:41 "Then He will say to those on His left, 'Depart from me, you accursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels."
To St. Peter, 'if you want to catch fish do it from the right side of the boat'. They did and filled the boat. John 21:6 So He said to them, "Cast the net over the right side of the boat and you will find something." So they cast it, and were not able to pull it in because of the number of fish."
Origin of Left & Right...
I have often wondered why it is that Conservatives are called the "right" and Liberals are called the "left".
By chance I stumbled upon this verse in the Bible: "A wise man's heart inclines him toward the right, but a fool's heart toward the left" Ecclesiastes 10:2 (RSV).
Bishop Sheen used the term as well: “…liberal Christianity...denies what Christ meant when He said, “Depart from Me Ye cursed into everlasting fire which was prepared for the devil and his angels” (Life is Worth Living; p.321).
There is a famous Catholic book written in 1886 in Spain by two Spanish Priest called: "Liberalism is a sin" (TAN).
Now Liberalism has been consistently condemned by Popes.
a. Gregory XVI, in 1831, dedicated an entire encyclical to this pernicious evil.
b. The Syllabus of Errors in 1864, by Pope Bl Pius IX put the final seal of condemnation upon this way of thinking.
c. In proposition # 80 of the Syllabus of Errors, Pope Pius XI condemned the belief that the Pope must adapt to progress and to Liberalism.
d. Blessed Pope Pius IX regarded Liberal Catholic with absolute horror. He said "liberal-Catholics" were the "worst enemies of the Church".
The word "eclesiastical liberal" is a theological word found on www.newadvent.org and that philosophy has Papal condemnation.
I also use the word "progressive" because that word is found in the New American Bible in 2 John 9 and that way of thing (progressive is condemned by Gods Word). The word progressive is a synonym for liberal.
These words are used in Catholic theology and Sacred Scripture that is why I occasionally use them on radio.
Thank you and God bless you,
