THE OLDER WE GET, THE BETTER WE SEE OURSELVES

February 11, 2020

When we're young, we think we're doing well.  When we get older, we're sure we're not.  Hence, when the adulteress was before our Lord, the woman whom the people wanted to stone, who left first, as Jesus wrote in the sand the sings of those who were there?  The eldest: "they began to leave, beginning with the eldest." As we grow older, we know that we have done little service.  I've been a priest for fifty-five years, for which I thank God I was doing much better thirty years ago in my own mind than I am now.  Now I feel as if I have done so little.
