 CCC 2087 - Ignorance of God is the reason for all moral deviations.

The 10 Commandments are a summary of the natural law that God has placed in our hearts, and so we are without excuse. Sin darkens the intellect & weakens the will. In other words, Sin makes you stupid (Christopher West).

*Higher Faculties - Intellect (reason) & Will (the soul). Grace illumines the mind and strengthens the will (Fulton Sheen).

*Lower Faculties - What is necessary for the body (the flesh). The body's concern called sensuality or sense appetites (pleasures and comforts). The Lower faculties or appetites are divided into two: Concupiscible and Irascible.

* Demons can trigger and ignite our lower faculties but not our higher faculties.

* Demons can ignite the passions through music, images.

*Our own fallen nature can ignite the passions cause we don't have the power to regulate them if we remain unconverted in our hearts.

* We can only temper (moderate, regulate) our passions / emotions through a life of faith, prayer, sacraments and fasting. Our emotions must be subordinated to right reason according to the Word of God.

* Our passions are either “ordered” or “disordered.”  Proper formation of conscience based on the Word of God gives us the grace to master our disordered passions. This is called ‘self- mastery.’ This is what makes us different from animals, we can ‘order’ our passions.
