MEXICAN SOUVENIRS NOT SO INNOCENT

March 7, 2024

QUESTION? COMMENT!

While organizing closets, I found some Mexican souvenirs we brought home from our honeymoon 34 years ago. One is a small replica of the Mayan Chac Mool idol. This idol has a small bowl on its belly that appears to be meant for receiving offerings. Another is heavily decorated axe or tomahawk that appears to be made from Obsidian. Because Mayans practiced human sacrifice, my gut tells me we should throw them away.  My husband likes holding on to things because of the pleasant memories they bring. He thinks it’s harmless to keep them.

My question is should we rid ourselves of these items? If answer is affirmative what should I say to convince him? I don’t want to be a wife that overrides her husband. I appreciate your help.

Yes, no Catholic should have any idols in there house, not even if they look cute and harmless. The Bible says: "For all the gods of the gentiles are devils & idols" (Psalm 95:5 DR; 1 Chronicles 16:25-26). The Aztecs and Mayans worshipped demons and they danced for the demon gods as well.
