The Liberated Woman
How did our theologians ever get the notion that the Vatican Council did away with devotion to our Lady? Was it because we didn't make a separate treatise? As a matter of fact, she was included in the treatise on the Church as Mother of the Church. She is the Mother of the Church, and our Mother. And she had an hour on the night of the Last Supper, when there was a mutual sorrow in the hearts of the disciples and our Blessed Lord. Our Lord used two feminine examples to explain sorrow. One was the hen that gathers chickens under her wings, and the other was the woman. He said, “When the woman is in labor she is in anguish because her hour has come, but she rejoices when the son is born.” In the original it is not when a woman’s hour has come, it is when the woman’s hour has come. Our Lord had his hour, the Blessed Mother had her hour. And they both have their day. He rose from the dead; she was assumed into heaven. There’s a woman in heaven. We can teach the world about woman's liberation. We have got the only liberated woman in all history. So if he had His hour, in reparation for sin, if Mary had her hour, then we can have ours.
