QUESTION?

I was wondering if you could help me with something. I heard you mention (in a YouTube video) deprecatory prayers. You gave an example using the term "may you". I want to make sure I understand this correctly. Is the following an acceptable use of a deprecatory binding prayer in accordance with the teachings and tradition of The Church? ...

"Any evil spirits present, in the name of Jesus Christ through the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, may you be bound to the foot of the cross for your judgment, never to bother us again. Amen"

Thank you so very much for your help with this. I just want to make sure I understand correctly.

ANSWER!

Yes, that's deprecatory because your asking Our Lord and Our Lady to do the binding. Versus an Exorcist in session would say: "I bind you..." Because he has been granted the permission of the Bishop who is a successor of the apostles.
