Does a Mother have spiritual authority over her children?
QUESTION? / COMMENT!
First of all, thank you for your witness and all you do for the Catholic Church. Your work and your talks are truly uplifting! My question is, that I understand that the father is the spiritual head of the household, but what happens when he passes away? I recently lost my husband to Cancer and I don' t know if I now have this spiritual authority in my home or if it is gone with him. Our two grown children continue to live with me. I appreciate your insights on this matter. God bless you and stay well.

Does a Mother have spiritual authority over her children?
A) Yes, read the following three verses from Sacred Scripture.
*Exodus 20:12 “Honor your father and your mother, that you may have a long life in the land the LORD your God is giving you.”
*Colossians 3:20 “Children, obey your parents in everything, for this is pleasing to the Lord.”
*Ephesians 6:1-3 “Children, obey your parents [in the Lord], for this is right. “Honor your father and mother.” This is the first commandment with a promise, “that it may go well with you and that you may have a long life on earth.”
