CENTERING PRAYER

What are your thoughts about centering prayer? The little research I did says it is an Eastern practice with Buddhist roots. I have also found some research that says Saint Teresa of Avila and Saint John of the Cross prayed in a similar way as centering prayer. I find more and more Catholic Churches are offering this type of meditation in their bulletins. It doesn’t sit well with me. It reminds me of New Age. Can you offer some advice?
