Sign Of The Cross

QUESTION?

Jesse, before Holy Mass we recite the Rosary.  When we get to the Glory Be we also sign ourselves, our Priest says not to sign  because we are giving Glory to God and signing is not proper. What is proper with the Glory Be?

ANSWER!

Making the sign of the cross at the name of the Holy Trinity is part of Catholic tradition - read this article by Helen Hitchcock who writes for ADOREMUS. She is a reliable source for orthodox teachings.

https://www.catholiceducation.org/en/culture/catholic-contributions/gest... "For this reason, we make the sign of the cross whenever the sacred name of God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) is invoked, either in acclamation or blessing or absolution..."

However, bowing at the name of the Trinity is also an act of reverence. The point is, we must make an act of reverence at the name of the Holy Trinity.
