Casting Shadows
September 27, 2024
We are always casting shadows. Mother Teresa came to New York to one of her houses, which was on one of the worst streets in the city. The street itself was covered with litter, dirt, filth, garbage, and paper. This tiny little woman got a broom and went out to sweep. And the women on the other side of the street, who had thrown out all this garbage, got their brooms and came down. Mother Teresa never asked them to do it. Somehow or other, Christ was in her. So it was with the influence of Pope John XXIII. Everyone who came into contact with him felt the presence of Christ. There was none of that curial politeness. It was a genuine holiness that broke through so that he could even influence Khrushchev and others.
