CAN I DO A GENERAL CONFESSION IN THE CONFESSIONAL?

 I have watched Fr.Ripperger’s , Dr.Taylor Marshal’s and couple of other priests’ videos  and they say general confession is valid and they even encourage a yearly one as well . So I went all prepared for one and the priest literally jumped at me and said in a stern voice it’s not valid anymore and shut me down completely .Furthermore  he insisted that I confess only the sins since my last confession . ( I wish I had prepared for one , moving forward I will  , due to this unexpected experience  ) So I quickly glanced at my paper of jotted down sins and confessed my sins from here and there  my mind could remember of the sins since my last confession  and he gave me absolution but didn’t exactly say  the words of the prayer the priest is supposed to say before giving absolution but only uttered the words ’ I absolve you from your sins in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit ‘ He gave me penance to recite some prayers which I did immediately after confession .
This has not ever happened to me before and I was pretty shaken since I felt like he almost chastised me and was impatient . There were only very few people to confess so I didn’t understand the haste….In all honesty I did not feel that it was a good confession on my part since I was  prepared for a general one , and the priest didn’t say the words that he ought to have said … so what do I do now  … ? Is anything valid regarding this confession ? Easter and Divine Mercy  are approaching and I am still inspired to do a general confession … do I find another priest or stick to orders given by this priest out of obedience ? I’m confused , sad and need of proper direction please….

You never do a general confession at the confessional where there are other people in line. General confessions are done by appointment with a priest in his office or in a hospital or hospice when you are dying.
