A bizarre way of explaining baptism

QUESTION? / COMMENT!

This past weekend my husband and I participated in a Lenten retreat at church. At one point the father took us into the church and demonstrated the blessing of the water in the baptismal font. He took a candle and lowered it and raised it into the baptismal font three times as he read a prayer. At the end he asked if we noticed the motion of the candle. He explained that it was representing love making because baptism brings forth new life as does the marital act. He explained that the baptismal font was the vagina and the candle the penis. I found this a bit far-fetched. It was such a weird explanation. I just find it hard to believe and want to know if this is true. He is a wonderful priest, he’s not afraid to speak the truth and he’s very knowledgeable about the Bible and history. He is from Columbia and has been ordained for almost 25 years.  I would appreciate any insight or explanation you may have.

I have never heard that before. I would ask him what are his sources? Book, Author page number? This is bizarre way of explaining. I would have described it as Our Lord is represented by the candle - because he is the light of the World (John 8:12; John 9:5) and the water symbolizes the Jordan River (where he was baptized). When Christ was plunged into the Jordan he prepared all the waters in the world to be used for baptism. This is the way I have heard Dr Scott Hahn explain this. He is my former professor and friend.
