An Amulet for a Christmas Gift??

For Christmas I received a gift of jewelry from a fellow Catholic this is concerning me, and I wanted your advice on the concerning item. It is a smooth, light pink stone with a hole drilled into the top and a chian inserted into it. I was told that this gift had been made for me to remind me that Jesus is my rock. I am really not liking that instead of the cross of Christ, I am being told to wear a small pink stone instead. It's concerning me because this person knows that I have seen Father Cliff Ermatinger speak. I am disturbed, that anyone would not give me a sacramental or a cross, but instead, give me something that looks like it could be an amulet. This person is in their 70's and is in a third order, so I am surprised at this kind of gift, because it doesn't seem right, and seems to be "off." It's not a crystal, because it's too solid in color and form. I really never wear any jewelry and neither does this other person, so it's kind of perplexing why they would think I need a strange pink rock to remind me of Jesus. What do you think about gifts like this?

There is no way I would be carrying a colored rock around my neck or anyother place on my person, that is at the very least the sin of superstition.
