What does the Church say about the red sanctuary lamp at the altar? I learned in Catholic school that it signified the presence of Christ, however, am stymied as to why
our parish is allowing parishioners to use that to offer up prayers for their loved ones (as a dedication). I find this disrespectful to the Lord and wondered if I am misunderstanding it all.
Please clarify. I’ve looked up some resources, but couldn’t find any.

The best thing to do is "ask your Pastor." He is in charge as to what happens in a Parish.
